Fried Sweet Potato/Bebola Keledek Goreng

Okay, in this post it will be hard for me to explain everything in English, so I will mix it with my Malay language.

Actually, I'm not even supposed to update the blog with this topic as I already had something else in mind. BUT GUESS WHAT I FOUND TODAY.

This snack used to be my FAVE during Convent school days. I didn't even know what was its name, but the taste is heavenly. It was sold by an Indian woman in the school canteen, so I was assuming it must be an Indian snack. 

WRONG.

On my way home from the tailor shop, I found a stall being run by a Malay guy, just by the street where I was walking with the baby pram. I saw those round snacks. I rushed there like a mad woman.

"Encik, ni kuih apa ye?" (Sir, what is this snack called?) I asked.

"Ni bebola keledek goreng, dik," (This is fried sweet potato) he answered.

My heart skipped a beat. BEBOLA KELEDEK GORENG. *took note*

Only two left. I bought both of them for 40 cents each.

There was another man going to buy them as well. But my face showed so much like "Please... I saw them first..." so he just bought one, and left the two to me. Yay!

NO. This is not the craving feeling I get during pregnancy. This is what I've been missing since school in 1999.

It has coconut inside other than the sweet potato. It has happiness. It has my childhood memories.

I took my first bite.

*fireworks appear above my head* 

Just like the critic Anton Ego inside Disney's Ratatouille, when he ate the ratatouille, it brought back memories from his childhood. 


JUST LIKE THAT.

"Tiap-tiap hari ade kat sini ke?" (Are you here everyday?) I asked the guy again.

"Ye, Isnin sampai Jumaat." (Yes, Monday to Friday)

I MUST COME AGAIN. To show my gratitude, I also bought some keropok lekor (still my favorite), and karipap for Dani. OH MY GOD. I rushed home to find the recipe.

BEBOLA KELEDEK GORENG. Googled it. And I found it on Paty's Kitchen.

Okay I don't know how to describe it, but I'm so thankful to the owner of that blog. It feels like I just completed a very old quest in an online game. AND IT'S VERY REWARDING. And yummy!

Can't wait for Dani to try it.
